CGA - Proposed Green Hydrogen and Ammonia Project in the Coega Special Economic Zone, Gqeberha, Eastern Cape

Coega Green Ammonia (Pty) Ltd is proposing to develop and operate a 1 400 MW green hydrogen electrolyser and associated ammonia production plant within Zone 7 of the Coega Special Economic Zone (SEZ), Gqeberha. The project will be powered by various identified renewable energy sources, and the produced ammonia will be exported through the Port of Ngqura. SLR has been appointed to undertake the required Scoping and EIA process for the proposed project.

Status

You are hereby informed that the Final Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Report and Environmental Management Programme (EMPr) were submitted to the Department of Economic Development, Environmental Affairs and Tourism (DEDEAT) for review and decision making on 28 November 2025.

The Final EIA Report has been compiled with due consideration of the requirements of the EIA Regulations 2014 (as amended), as well as comments received from Interested and Affected Parties (l&APs) during the Draft EIA Report review and comment period (20 August 2025 to 19 September 2025).

We appreciate your participation in the process to date. As a registered I&AP, you will be notified when a decision is made in due course.
