Proposed Field Development in Block 11B/12B and Associated Production Activities, South Africa

14 September 2026 | Client: Main Street 1549 (Pty) Ltd

Main Street 1549 and its JV partners discovered gas-condensate resources in Block 11B/12B, located ~75 km off the South Coast of South Africa roughly between Mossel Bay and Cape St Francis, through exploration activities, including the Brulpadda (2019) and Luiperd (2020) wells. Following these discoveries, the JV applied for a Production Right in 2022 and initiated an ESIA and Environmental Authorisation process for field development.

In 2024, TotalEnergies, QatarEnergy, and CNRI withdrew from the project, and Main Street assumed operatorship. Main Street then proposed a limited survey campaign to gather environmental and technical data to support future development planning. The ESIA scope has since been expanded to assess the full development of the Paddavissie Fairway and its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts. Main Street elected to assessed two conservative full-field development scenarios for the Paddavissie Fairway to define the maximum reasonable development envelope and ensure the ESIA captures the upper limit of potential impacts.

This expansion in scope requires the withdrawal of the previous EA application (Ref 12/4/013) for the survey campaign and the submission of a new EA application and associated ESIA process for the full development scope, which will be undertaken on 14 September 2026.

In terms of the EIA Regulations, 2014 (as amended), the proposed project requires EA as it triggers Listing Notices 1 (R.983 of 2014 as amended), 2 (R.984 of 2014 as amended) and 3 (R.985 of 2014 as amended). Consequently, a Scoping and EIA Process will be followed.

SLR Consulting (South Africa) (Pty) Ltd (SLR) has been appointed by Main Street to undertake the ESIA process for the proposed project.
