Mining Geochemistry Services

Our multi-disciplinary team studies the chemical composition and behavior of Earth materials, including rocks, minerals, soils, water, and the atmosphere. We combine elements of geology, chemistry, physics, and biology to understand the processes that shape our planet.

Overview

Our team’s technical skill sets are grounded in geochemical engineering to characterise mine waste and mining rehabilitation materials. These geochemical skill sets are integrated with surface water, groundwater assessment and management to address and mitigate the potential for saline and metalliferous drainage to occur under acid, neutral, or alkaline pH (referred to as AMD in APAC and ARD in America).

Geochemical engineering integrates soil science, geochemical assessment, and terrestrial ecotoxicological assessment of flora and soil biota with landform and soil cover system designs for rehabilitation and closure of waste rock and tailings storage facilities. Geochemists work closely with Geologists, Geotechnical Engineers, Mine Waste Engineers, Hydrologists, Hydrogeologists, and Mine Planners to deliver integrated planning for constructed mine landforms and designing for closure.

Our team is routinely called upon to present to client stakeholders and Government Departments to facilitate environmental approvals and mine closure plans. We also work in an owner’s engineer role to manage complex environmental projects. In addition, we work directly for State and Commonwealth departments providing environmental, technical, and financial assurance advice on mine closure projects.

We work to reduce long-term liability from mining projects, believing that integrating mine planning and designing for closure is more than theory, and with the right people and right tools, mining projects can be evaluated and developed with the end in mind. Ultimately, providing tenable social and environmental outcomes for businesses that enables a stronger sustainability outcome, and less roadblocks to secure access to additional projects.
